Migrant Solidarity + Direct Action Fundraiser

This will be a chance to learn more about deportations, the current social climate of the 'hostile environment' and the ways in which we can take action against deportations and for solidarity. There will be information, resources and workshops, and the chance to network with individuals and organisations working to support migrants in Birmingham.

This event will also help raise funds to support the #Stansted15 defense funds and living costs during their sentencing at Chelmsford Crown Court in February. Any extra money raised will go towards the campaign against deportations.

The #Stansted15 are a group of activists who in March 2017 took peaceful direct action to stop a government charter flight from
unlawfully deporting 60 people to Ghana and Nigeria where their lives were at risk. The activists have been subject to draconian court rulings, and in December were found guilty of terror-related charges. Amnesty International has called this response an abuse of human rights, which is part of a government crackdown on protest against the Home Office's racist and inhumane treatment of migrants as part of its 'hostile environment' policies.
